When your child is tardy

Once the bell has rung beginning the school day (8:10 a.m.) your child is considered tardy.
You must obtain a tardy slip in the office to proceed to your classroom.

When your child is absent

Regular attendance is important for the academic growth of your child. Children who are late to class or miss school also miss instruction. Please schedule medical appointments for after the school day. If the appointment is necessary during the school day, the child can return to school to resume instruction when it is over. If your child is absent or late for class, please send a note with your child to his/her teacher indicating why your child was absent or tardy. It is required by California State Law that the absence of children, whether due to illness or non-illness, be verified by a note from the parent.

Parents and guardians of students who are absent or tardy will receive two automated attendance calls LAUSD. The first call is sent in the morning, based on the attendance information in the system as of 9:30 a.m. The second call is sent in the evening, based on the data in the system at 3:30 p.m.  The call will be made to the telephone number provided to the school for attendance notifications. Should you wish to change this number, please contact the school at (323) 664-0051. This attendance information helps improve both student safety and academic achievement.

You must present a signed copy of the absence form to the office each and every time your child is absent. Stop by the office to fill out the form the day your child returns to school.

Calls to the office

Parents often call asking the office to deliver messages to students. The office requests that this be done only in an extreme emergency. To deliver a message properly requires an interruption to both the teacher and student. There is often the possibility that the message will be misunderstood or incorrectly delivered.

Parent Volunteering

We are proud of our parent involvement at Ivanhoe. Parents help out in the classrooms regularly. Each teacher posts dates and times needed for volunteers. You can also inquire about taking work home to help with your classroom. In order to be on campus after the bell rings helping children, you must have a valid tuberculosis skin test on file in the office. Each time you volunteer go into the office, make sure to sign in as a visitor and wear your LAUSD volunteer badge.

Admissions

Please bring one current utility bill (gas, water, electric) no longer than 2 months old. Name of parent/legal guardian needs to be on the bill. Bring a valid license or State I.D. Office staff will     verify address and enrollment packet will be provided. If you have any questions please call       (323) 664-0051.

Lice

Infestation with head lice is a common occurrence in the school community. School nurses check children for lice and exclude those who are infested. Your cooperation is essential in helping to control this problem. We strongly urge you to check your child’s hair, clothes and bedding daily for any signs of lice or nits.
